To answer a question I get asked A LOT!

Bar BellI get asked A LOT, “Why do YOU pay a trainer? You don’t need a trainer, you know what to do.” Well… as far as exercising goes, yes, I do know what to do. Most people do that are fitness enthusiasts. So, I want to tell you why I use a personal trainer.

1. For the ACCOUNTABILITY.

2. For pushing me in areas that I do NOT push myself.

3. I pay someone to do what THEY specialize in. That is to train me and teach me.

4. For the bio individuality.

Let’s talk about these…

#1 The Accountability                                                                                                                                                                                                                     When you are being held accountable you are much more likely to be successful in whatever it is you are being held accountable for. Maybe you don’t want to let someone down, maybe you need the accountability to get you motivated, maybe you just need it to be accountable to yourself? Whatever the reason you have a much higher success rate than you do when doing things on your own. For this reason I have found accountability to be  HUGE. Think of a the last time you wanted to slack on something but didn’t because you were being held accountable by a group or another individual?

#2 Not pushing myself                                                                                                                                                                                                                             If you know me or follow me you know I do workout hard, that is just my nature and I truly love it. While I have totally changed my type of workouts in the past year (this is a future post that you will not want to miss…wink,wink) I DO NOT push myself like my trainer pushes me. I have limited time with him therefore I want to get every minute of training I can. I am paying for his services and want to utilize every minute I have with him. Yes it is a Love/Hate relationship and I do not always want to do what I am being told to do, but I do it. Why? Because he knows what I need to get the results I am wanting. So…I do it! Oh and yes, I do get the results I want.

#3 To train me and teach me in his area of expertise                                                                                                                                                                    I would not pay a plumber to do my electrical work. You pay people for what THEY do. I am not a personal trainer, I am a nutritionist. My trainer does not tell me what to eat and I don’t tell him how to train. (Well, lets not ask him about that, I may try to tell him how to train me sometimes…just kidding.) I do learn from my training as well, so when I am on my own I know what needs to be done.

#4 The bio individuality is just that                                                                                                                                                                                                     I train for my body type. My problem area is my lower half and while this is a lot of females problem area, what works for me is not going to necessarily be what works for someone else. My body fat is not high therefore I do not need as much cardio (as I once thought I did…again, this will be in that later post that you will not want to miss). Someone else may build really fast in their lower area but may need to do more cardio due to their body fat being much higher. This is where the one on one is key. Your trainer should know your body and know what you should be doing to get the results you want. Now, if you paired that with a nutritionist and you feed your body all kinds of goodness and physically do what you need, BAM! Talk about some results!

With all this being said people pay me for my services in the same way I pay my trainer for his services. They pay me for what I do. I am a certified nutritionist. I help people make that forever healthy lifestyle change by teaching them what to eat, what not to eat and WHY. One reason people pay me is for the accountability. Believe me, if YOU tell me YOU are going to do something and YOU have paid me for it…YOU WILL DO IT. Okay, maybe you won’t, but I WILL hold you accountable. Just saying!

I do want to make something clear. I am not telling you have to go out and get a trainer, or a nutritionist for that matter. I am just answering the question I get asked a lot. I do use a trainer, not everyday, I can’t afford it! I do workout on my own majority of the time. All of us should do some sort of exercising on a regular basis for our health. Find what YOU like. If I had to swim in order to get my exercising in, well lets just say it wouldn’t happen. I hate swimming! If you hate running, why run? There are so many options nowadays. From zumba to crossfit to just good ole walking. Whatever gets you up and going, do it!
